Song Request Sunday – June 13th, 2021

Welcome to another installment of Song Request Sunday! Its June 13th, 2021 and the world still hasn’t exploded, but give it time. So far on Song Request Sunday we’ve had requests for Rage Against The Machine, Linda Perry from 4 Non Blondes and Edwyn Collins… Remember his track “A Girl Like You” from the Empire Records movie soundtrack? It was also recently featured in the was-on-Fox-now-on-Netflix TV show Lucifer. And we got a #DoubleOnTheRetro request for Beastie Boys too! We rewarded the song requestor, Jeremy, with “Egg Man” from Paul’s Boutique and “Brrrr Stick Em” from To The 5 Boroughs. So Toby, do you still wanna be bionic?

And Now Today… June 13th, 2021

So far, Song Request Sunday is off to a great start!

If you listened to last night’s On-Air with Fil ‘N’ Inny you learned yesterday was National Loving Day, which sounds sweet and innocent, and full of love! Well, yes and no. It directly relates to the Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Loving v. Virginia to strike down any laws, like Virginia’s state law at the time, banning interracial marriages! So yes, it is a good day and decision to celebrate, but its also heart wrenching to think its only been 54 years that the United States of America has protected our rights to marry outside of one’s race. Yeah, let that set in….

Subsequently, today is the 55th anniversary of the famous Supreme Court decision Miranda v. Arizona, which established the Miranda Rights Law. That’s the law always referenced in TV shows and movies when the suspect being arrested says “I know my rights! I ain’t sayin’ nothing!”. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle, G.I. Joe! This anniversary of the Miranda Rights law will be honored on The Retro by playing as many songs with the word ‘arrested’ in them, or about being arrested, and of course ‘keeping your mouth shut’.

Also, lately we have been getting a TON of requests for older metal artists like Metallica and Black Sabbath. And that is exactly what this feature is for! Those songs and those bands will definitely hit the airwaves today too. But lest we forget what Song Request Sunday is for- and that is YOUR song requests. What kind of mood are you in? What do you want to hear? We recently lost our super human powers of telepathy and can no longer read your mind from afar like Professor X. Alas, you must tell us your song requests the old fashion way by messaging us. Just fill out the form below and we’ll get your song on and give you a shout out!
