“Call Me A Dog” is a fantastic song by the late, great Chris Cornell. Even though the song appears on his successful and enduring Songbook album, and he performs it solo and beautifully, the tune got its amazing start on the Temple Of The Dog collaborative album with memebers of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, including Eddie Vedder. If you haven’t heard the song, stop living in a soulless hole and go check it out. Better yet, read the lyrics here and sing along to the video we included. You call me a dog, well, that’s fair enough
There ain’t no use to pretend you’re wrong
When you call me out, I cant hide anymore
I have no disguise you can’t see throughYou swear it’s bad luck to have fallen for me
What can I do to make it good for you?
You wore me out like an old winter coat
Trying to be safe from the coldBut when it’s my time
To throw the next stone
I’ll call you beautiful
If I call at all
Yeah, when you call me a dogYou tell me I’m low ’cause I’ve slept on the floor
And out in the woods with the badgers and the wolvesYou threw me out ’cause I went digging for gold
I came home with a hand of coalBut when it’s my time
To throw the next stone
I’ll call you beautiful
If I call at all
And when it’s my time
To call your bluff
I’ll call you beautiful or leave it alone, yeahYou call me a dog
That’s fair enough
It doesn’t bother me as long as you know
The bad luck will follow you
If you keep me on a leash and you drag me along
Drag me along
Hey, hey, heyBut when it’s my time
To throw the next stone
I’ll call you beautiful
If I call at allAnd when it’s my time
Songwriters: Christopher J. Cornell
To call your bluff
I’ll call you beautiful
I’ll leave it alone, yeah, yeah
So you call me dog
