Pixies are an alternative rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. The group started in 1986 and influenced many grunge artists like Kurt Cobain, Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins. Even with the popularity amongst fellow artists and musicians in the U.S., in Europe is where Pixies found their most success over the years.
Lead singer Black Francis and guitarist Joey Santiago met in college where they shared music and began playing together. After writing songs and playing together for a few years, Santiago put out an ad for a bass player that shared in some of their musical tastes. Only one person responded, sans a bass experience, Kim Deal. They also added drummer David Lovering.
The Pixies have released six albums to date.
