Pennywise

Pennywise is a skate punk rock band from Southern California. Although they did put out two EPs previously, they released their first full Self-Titled album in 1991. Pennywise was started by Jim Lindberg, Fletcher Dragge, Byron McMackin and Jason Thirsk. Soon after the band’s popularity surged when they released their third album About Time in 1995. But tragedy hit the group when Thirsk, who was struggling with alcoholism and depression, committed suicide.

Bassist Randy Bradbury took over bass duties full-time after that. And the band gained national attention when their album Full Circle came out, which features the popular song “Bro Hymn” which Thirsk originally wrote. The song was re-wrote and re-sang for the Full Circle album to honor Jason.
